Bethany has loved horses ever since she was little. On her 12th birthday her mother decided to "cure" her of this
malady by getting her a riding lesson with Diane Royce of Walla Walla, WA. September 15, 2006 marked the 10 year anniversary
of that day, and also 10 years of riding lessons with Diane.
Bethany got her first horse at age 16; an Arab/Appy/Hackney-type cross. She was 11 yrs old and 14.1H. They
rode all over the ranch, took lessons with Diane and spent hours exploring the countryside. Since that little grade
mare, Bethany has owned a Bold Ruler bred Chesnut TB mare named FloodBaby, a cow-bred QH gelding named Rebel, a 35ish yr old percheron/lippizan
gelding, a mini horse named Ringo, Symphony the ex-racing TB, Cas the ex-racing TB stallion, and Migo; the 3/4 arab/shetland
pony. Currently, she owns Dazzle Me Again (4 yr. ApHC filly) and Spot Me Some Color (2 yr. Appy/TB gelding).
Bethany is now focusing on training Dazzle and working towards awards that will be on her records. Namely, they
are working for a COA in Dressage through the ApHC ACAAP program and a Distance ROM through ApHC. Eventually, the plan
is to earn Dazzle a place in the Appaloosa Sports Horse Association Stud Book through either Dressage or Endurance.
On top of that, Bethany keeps the Ranch running and works horses for her mother-in-law, keeps the neighbor girls on horses,
and trains Spotless. She is very grateful for all the help and support she gets from her family and friends.
Ashley on Thunder |

Fall, 2008 |
Ashley V.
Ashley first started riding at 7 yrs old when she met Bethany.
She started learning on Ringo the large mini with pony-rides on Rebel. In 2005, Bethany brought home Stealin'
Your Thunder for Ashley to learn on. Learn they did; Thunder was NOT an easy ride back then. Ashley overcame her
fears and Thunder became a much easier horse to ride. Ashley brought home a reserve hi-point in 2007 at the CEA series,
attended lots of play-days, and then snagged some ribbons at the Country Carousel show in 2009, as well as racking up lots
of around-the-block and trail miles.
Bethany is very proud of how well Ashley has done and as
she is out-growing Thunder in ability, Ashley has started taking lessons on Dazzle, Bethany's personal horse, with a goal
of showing Intro Dressage on her spring, 2009.
Ashley dreams of growing up to be a famous Dressage
rider and trainer and owning her own farm and horses. Bethany is doing her best to give her all the opportunities she
can to be around horses.

Melissa is living here to go to college and we are lucky enough to have
her training our horses for us. At home in Canada she rides her own horse, Flame, a paint gelding, in Dressage lessons,
Jumping, and trail-riding. Though she has been riding since she was 4 or 5, she has only been taking Dressage for 4
or 5 years. She is excellent at the sport and brought our mare Symphony leaps and bounds in her time with us last year.
She also brought the leased mare, Lady, to training level Dressage.
Melissa began riding at Summer camp, riding camp horses western.
Since then she has been a camp wrangler and is a great teacher. Her attention was shifted from Western to Dressage when
she went to Spruce Meadows in Calgary and saw Anky ride. Since then, she has dreamed of being to able to ride "like
that".
Fall 2007, Melissa bought the OTTB mare, Bayberry Road from a race breeding ranch in Moses Lake,
WA. In 2008, Melissa brought home a 61.5% at Intro Level Dressage after only one winter of re-training off the track.
June 13th, 2009 they wowed everyone at the BMDCTA Dressage show by getting a breath-taking 79%. After that, she
was banned from doing any more Intro tests and was awarded the day's Hi-Point award; an embroidered Dressage saddle pad.
With one more
school year left to spend down here, we have high hopes for what she will be able to do before heading home to Canada for
good, June 2010.
We hope that Melissa will be able to seriously begin her Dressage journey
with us. Thanks for putting up with us!

Trudy (Bethany's Mother-in-law) was lucky enough to get her first horse in 8th grade. They lived in the mountains
and she spent hours riding on the highway by her house and all over the mountainside. When she got married she had to
sell her horse, an Appy-cross, and devote her time to her husband and soon family. She later bought a breeding-stock
appy filly that she trained herself and enjoyed immensely, but the time was not right and she eventually had to sell this
filly also.
About twelve years ago she began attending the Chief Joseph Appaloosa Endurance Trail Ride with her husband Andy Shaw.
They were part of the 'crew' setting up camp at each station and cooking all the meals for the 350 riders. This once
a year opportunity to see horses and talk to horse-people helped fill Trudy's horsey cravings, but it's not the same as owning
your own horse.
Summer of 2005, Trudy began riding a boarder horse living at Lewis Lane Ranch. She was owned by a 20 yr old lady
who had bought her from a local Appaloosa breeder as a 3 yr old and started her undersaddle. Trudy enjoyed spending
time with this intriguing horse, but didn't want to get too attached as she knew they couldn't afford a horse with such great
bloodlines and so much potential.
Fall of 2005 the filly's owner decided she didn't want to sell her to someone far away and worked out arrangements for
Trudy to be able to buy her. Trudy spent all winter working with this loud-colored filly, gaining her trust and
respect. Finally, in May 2006, they made the last payment and Sparkles was officially Trudy's! Since then, they
have attended the Chief Joseph Appaloosa Trail Ride together, wowing people with both Sparkles color and her temperment.
Fall 2006, they debuted in the show ring both hunt-seat and western pleasure.
In 2008, Trudy focused on trail-riding, the Chief Joseph Endurance ride, and learning to work cows at every opportunity.
Due to health problems she didn't get to ride as much as she had hoped.
Trudy's plans for 2009
and 2010 include attending the Chief Joseph again, and returning to the Dressage ring to work up to attending the schooling
show next spring with Melissa and Bethany.
Lewis Lane Ranch is proud to have both Trudy and Sparkles in our ranks. They look forward to a long and fruitful
show career and friendship. It's a privilege to have them in our family.
